Territorial Design in Geneva and Luxembourg
Im Zuge der Ausstellung "Territorial Turn" im HDA hält der Architekt und Stadtplaner Panos Mantziaras einen Vortrag (in englischer Sprache).

Seit der Agrarrevolution galt der urbane Raum entweder als Gegenpol oder, im Optimalfall, als Ergänzung seiner „natürlichen“ Umgebung. Die Notwendigkeit zu CO2 Einsparungen und Fragen nach der Resilienz unseres Lebensstils stellen uns vor noch nie dagewesenen Herausforderungen. Sie erfordern radikale Strategien, die damit auch die Legitimität der Designdisziplinen hinterfragen. Die internationalen Beraterprojekte Greater Geneva und Luxembourg in Transition wurden durch das Eco-Century Project® der Braillard Foundation organisiert und ins Leben gerufen. Sie werfen ein neues Licht auf globale Bestrebungen, die Instrumente (Normen, Gesetze und Methoden) für einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit unserem Planeten zu transformieren.
Panos Mantziaras
Panos Mantziaras ist ausgebildeter Architekt (M.Arch, UPenn) und promovierte im Fachgebiet Städtebau und -Stadtplanung an der Université Paris 8, Vincennes – Saint-Denis. Durch zahlreiche Publikationen – wie etwa La ville-paysage, Rudolf Schwarz et la dissolution des villes (2008) – sowie durch Vorträge und Lehrveranstaltungen teilt er seine Expertise im städtebaulichen Kontext in Europa, Nordamerika und Japan. Als Leiter des Büros für Architektur-, Stadt- und Landschaftsforschung im französischen Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication (2011-2015) initiierte er Forschungsprogramme zu Architektur und Städtebau mit Fokus auf die ökologische Wende. Seit 2015 ist er Direktor der Genfer Architekturstiftung „Fondation Braillard Architectes“ und hat das Forschungs- und Kulturprogramm The Eco-Century Project® ins Leben gerufen, das die internationalen Konsulationsprojekte für den Großraum Genf und die Grenzregion Luxemburg betraut. Vor kurzem veröffentlichte er Dessiner la Transition, Dispositifs pour une métropole écologique (mit Roselyne de Lestrange et al., 2020) und Racines modernes de la ville contemporaine (mit Paola Viganò, 2019).

Since the agricultural revolution, the urban realm was seen in the worst case as the antithesis, and in the best case as the complement of its « natural » environment. The urgency for decarbonization and resilience of our lifestyles sets unprecedented questions and demands radical strategies that unsettle the design disciplines’s legitimacy. Organized and certified by Braillard Foundation's Eco-Century Project, the Greater Geneva and the Luxembourg in Transition international consultations cast some light in the global endeavor to reinvent the tools (metrics, forms and narratives) for a new stewardship of the planet.
Panos Mantziaras
Architect-engineer (NTUA), M.Arch. (UPenn), Ph.D. in urban design and planning (UParis 8). Panos Mantziaras has published, lectured and taught in Europe, North America and Japan. He is the author of La ville-paysage, Rudolf Schwarz et la dissolution des villes (2008). As the Head of the Office for Architectural, Urban and Landscape Research at the French Ministry of Culture and Communication (2011-2015), he initiated research programs on architecture and urbanism in the prism of the ecological transition. As the Director of the Geneva-based Braillard Architectural Foundation since 2015, he launched the research and cultural program The Eco-Century Project®, which certified the international consultations for the Greater Geneva and the cross-border region of Luxembourg. He recently published Dessiner la Transition, Dispositifs pour une métropole écologique (with Roselyne de Lestrange et al., 2020), and Racines modernes de la ville contemporaine (with Paola Viganò, 2019).
